My beloved No.55 (22-05-2009)
RIP to my Rat No.55 and all the rats that sacrifice their lives for us to poke, prick and torture them. It's rats for LAST again but this time we all came prepared knowing we're all going to send them to heaven. I've been conditioning myself not to cry or freak out to poke the eyes and kill them but it seem so difficult to me cos there's a bond between me and the rats formed last week. IP injection were to be done 1st but somehow my 55 was feeling kinda down maybe because he could feel that his cage was below a bag of utilized rats. He struggled and broke his nails when melvin wanted to restraint him causing his nails to flip up and bleed. The stench of its blood filled the cage and it bleed like nobody's business. We took about an hour to do the injection but he still struggled and when i clipped it's nails, he started squeaking and peeing. God man... Really break my heart to witness all these. It started to bleed time and again that Yee Mon clipped his fingers off, and apply the medicine on him, plastering his tiny paw with masking tape. After the whole traumatised incident, we started to anaesthetised him but he's so power as if he had eaten Viagra that we had to anaesthetise him 4 times in order to successfully anaesthetise him. I broke down when i saw Cheryl poking the orbital sinus. Yee Mon and the guys was like shock and keep asking whether I'm crying which is so obvious, then only when i replied that i have flu, they stop asking and continue with their work. Funny la... The poking thing was not a nice feeling cos you can feel its heartbeat and it still twitch once awhile. Melvin did it 1st and the worst thing was to asked me press on the wound after he punctured it. I couldn't do it, it's so difficult to get that spot..2nd on the move was cardiac puncture where u need to locate the heart and draw blood from it, It's another challenge but eventually i managed to get it and that's where Yee Mon will euthanised (inject the chemical to put it to sleep) and its heart stop immediately. There goes another life... Mata's rat was so pitiful cos apparently Yee mon didn't help them to locate the heart properly and injected the chemical so when they dissect the body, they found the heart still beating. Damn shocking and devastating, can imagine the rat could feel the pain when we cut and slice their body up.The only thing i did well was the cardiac puncture all thanks to those who had dissected the rat and showed me the position. And the dissection was solely done by me :), was okay cos it's like cutting the chicken.4 hours of lesson leading to multiple lives of rats lost.. At least i gain alot and it's truly an eye-opening experience for me.Labels: For tears i shed..
